Press Ctrl+Alt+T to open the Terminal. You can open the Terminal using the keyboard shortcut on most Linux distributions. The keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + Alt + T. You can also click the Terminal icon in your Apps menu. It generally has an icon that resembles a black screen with a white text cursor.

In most Linux systems, pressing the shortcut for the Terminal opens the command prompt. Using Ctrl + Alt + T on your keyboard will bring up the context menu. The Terminal app is also accessible through the Apps menu. A typical representation of this symbol is a dark background with a white text cursor.

Select Terminal from the list of available apps by selecting its icon. The icon most commonly used to represent it looks like a dark screen with a white text cursor superimposed on top of it.

Typed 'alacarte' into the terminal, in an attempt to find the program of interest to locate name which would allow it to open.
