290 babies die unexpectedly before their first birthday every year. Many of these deaths are classified as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or cot death, which usually happens when babies are sleeping. The way an infant goes to sleep at night is the way she expects to go back to sleep when she awakens. Babies can starts showing signs of sleeping through from 6 months onwards but sleep issues can occur in toddlers and older children too. Sheets and blankets should be firmly tucked in and not above shoulder height. A baby sleep bag that is a good fit for the baby is safe for a baby to sleep in. A good fit is described as fitting well around the shoulders so that the baby’s head does not slip down into the sleeping bag.
